Insurance

Quality healthcare including therapy is a significant personal and financial commitment. It’s important to remember that your relationship with your insurance provider is separate from your treatment relationship with Prairie Family Counseling and Consulting. You are responsible for costs not covered by insurance at the time of service.

We accept many insurances including Blue Cross – Blue Shield, TRICARE and other plans. We also participate in Medicare and Medicaid. Please do not hesitate to ask in advance if we are a participating provider with your plan.

Payment can be made with cash, Visa/MC/Discover or a personal check.

Additionally, if you have a pre-tax Medical Reimbursement (“flexible spending”) Account, those funds can usually be used for your therapy. Check with your plan administrator.

What you should know about insurance:

  • Pre-certification is required by some plans before they will pay for services. Please contact your insurance company to determine what your policy covers and how to access services. Please ask us in advance if you have questions.
  • Co-pay must be rendered at check-in for each session. Insurance companies will not allow us to waive co-payments.
  • Deductibles usually must be met before insurance payments begin. If you have not met your deductible, charges for the visit are payable on the day of service.
  • Coinsurance is the amount your insurance requires you pay for after your deductible has been met. (It is different from “Co-pay”) You are responsible for this amount also.
  • Out-of-network plans (or non-participating) may only cover 50%-75% of the cost per session. As a convenience we can file insurance for many of these plans, but you will be responsible for the remaining balance. Be sure you know what your “out-of-network” coverage is.
  • Relationship counseling does not have a formal diagnosis and is not covered by most insurance carriers (it is not the same as "family therapy", which usually is covered). Nearly all relationship counseling is "self-pay".
  • Forensic services are usually not covered by insurance. We require submission of a retainer fee prior to the first session. Charges subsequently exceeding the retainer, if any, are payable at the time of service.
  • Missed appointments or cancelled sessions are not covered by insurance.

Cancellations / No Show

24-hour cancellation notice is required to avoid being charged for a session.  If, for any reason you cannot let us know more than 24 hours in advance, you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee for the time reserved which is payable prior to the next session. Insurance companies will not reimburse for a missed or cancelled session, which is your responsibility. There is no charge to reschedule if necessary due to Prairie Family clinical conflicts.

Outstanding balances must be satisfied prior to each session unless other arrangements have been made.
